Winter Ready Automobile
For those who live up north, winterizing a car is a normal practice. For those down south with rare cold and winter storms, many aren’t aware that some things should be done. It’s important to make sure your car is ready for that big winter storm that is coming in. Take your car to a shop or do these yourself as they are needed.
Get your liquids checked and at proper levels. Have your antifreeze levels up to avoid freezing problems. Get an oil change with possibly a lighter oil that won’t congeal as much in the cold. Make sure that you keep at least a half tank of gasoline so the fuel lines don’t mess up in the cold. A full tank is even better.
Make sure your brakes are quality. In the ice and snow the brakes are normally worn down much faster meaning they need to be in great shape.
Be sure your lights especially your warning lights are working properly. This is important because at times you might get stuck in the snow.
Just in case you should also have some supplies in your vehicle in case you do get stuck in the snow. Keep a flash light, radio, snacks, water, blankets, extra clothing, any medications that you might need on a regular basis, some sand or salt, a small first aid kit, a radio, and anything else that you might need. If you are stuck in the snow, it’s important that you have a way of keeping comfortable until you are rescued.
One of the most things to be ready for is to stay warm. The extra blankets or even the sleeping bag in your car can make a huge difference. It won’t take up much space or add to much weight to the vehicle. Being stuck in the cold, this will make a huge difference.
Do what you can to make sure your car is properly prepared for the colder environment and so that you can make it if your car gets stuck in the snow.
